NCAA DII Lake Erie comes from behind against Carlow in women’s soccer

The Carlow women’s soccer team fell to NCAA Division II opponent Lake Erie (Ohio) College, 2-1, on the road Friday, Aug. 31.

After a scoreless first half, the Celtics (0-2/0-0/0-0) took a 1-0 lead in the 59th minute when Alexa Schwab (JR/Conway, Pa.), a transfer from Kent State University, scored the first Carlow goal of the season and the first of her career.

However, the Storm (2-0) put together a late comeback. Carley Kandel scored a minute later and Maddie Smith netted the game-wiiner in the 66th minute.

Carlow goalkeeper Paige Schindehette (SO/Bethel Park, Pa.) made five saves, and Lake Erie goalkeeper Rachel Weber made seven.

The Celtics put all eight of their shots on goal and took three corner kicks. The Storm earned 11 shots, putting seven on goal, and had two corners.

The Celtics return to Pittsburgh for their home opener Saturday, against Madonna University. Kickoff is set for 5pm at Cupples Stadium, at the conclusion of the Carlow men's game against Penn State New Kensington.
