Cougars control Celtics in women's soccer season opener

The Carlow women’s soccer team ran into a difficult opponent and difficult weather as they opened the 2018 season at Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) University on Saturday.

The Cougars (2-1) entered the contest with a 1-0 win against Rio Grande and a 1-0 loss to No. 22 Lindsey Wilson. Their experience showed as they took control early in their home opener and went on to seal a 4-0 win against the Celtics (0-1) amidst driving rain.

MVNU led, 3-0, at halftime and finished with 32 shots, including 17 on goal. Cougars goalkeeper Anna Chrysler made six saves in her shutout.

The Celtics earned 12 shots, with six on goal. Kristina Wallace (SR/Jeannette, Pa.) and Abigail Marinucci (FR/Dunbar, Pa.) paced Carlow with three shots apiece.

Carlow goalkeeper Paige Schindehette (SO/Bethel Park, Pa.) finished with 13 saves.

The Celtics next play at Lake Erie (Ohio) College at 4pm Friday.
