Stroud, Celtics blow past Maine Presque Isle at USCAA Small College World Series

Abby Stroud (SO/New Egypt, N.J.) threw a 5-inning 1-hit shutout and the Carlow softball team run-ruled the University of Maine at Presque Isle, 8-0, at the USCAA Small College World Series, on Monday, May 14.

The No. 3-seeded Celtics advance to the quarterfinals of the double-elimination tournament to face No. 2 St. Mary-of-the-Woods at 2pm tomorrow, in DuBois, Pa. at Heindl Field.

Stroud, who did not walk a batter and struck out five, helped herself out at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

The Celtics compiled 13 hits as they scored two runs in the first inning, one in the second, two in the fourth and three more in the fifth.

Abby Tatgenhorst (SO/Byesville, Ohio) and Tristan Voss (FR/Enon Valley, Pa.) also went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double. Voss had three RBIs and Tatgenhorst had two. Adrianna Gottheld (FR/Charleroi, Pa.) went 2-for-2 with a stolen base. Sofia Papageorge (JR/Beaver Falls, Pa.) added a hit and an RBI.
