Celtics open spring golf season at CMU Invite

The Carlow golf team opened its spring season in the rain at the Carnegie Mellon University Spring Invitational at Longue Vue Club and Golf Course on Thursday, March 29.

Point Park scored a 318 to win the men’s team event over Westminster, Saint Vincent and Thiel. The Pioneers were the only team to enter a full women’s team. The Celtics competed with three individuals on the men’s and women’s side.


Jacob St. George (JR/Monaca, Pa.) led the Celtics with a 91 on the par 70 course. Nick Paone (SO/Export, Pa.) scored a 95 and Ryan Bradigan-Barnett (SO/Dayton, Pa.) scored a 103.


For the Celtics’ women, Samantha Stefanik (SO/Apollo, Pa.) scored a 119, Lexie Mirenda (SR/Altoona, Pa.) shot a 128 and Abby Wilczynski (JR/Erie, Pa.) a 213. Par was 72.

Thiel’s Jason Thorp won the men’s event with a 74 and CMU’s Shanice Lam won the women’s event with an 85.

The Celtics next compete April 7-8 at the Links at Spring Church.
