Celtics come up short against CCU

The Carlow men’s basketball team dropped a River States Conference game on the road to Cincinnati Christian, 81-67, on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Tony Acrie (JR/Johnstown, Pa.) posted a double double to lead four Celtics scoring in double figures. Acrie tallied 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Charlie Scharbo (SR/Jefferson Hills, Pa.) had 17 points, eight rebounds, and four blocks. Zach Bryan (SR/Irwin, Pa.) had 16 points, six assists, and two steals. Rece Henneman (JR/Clarksville, Pa.) added 11 points and five rebounds.

Blake Walsman had a massive performance for the Eagles, scoring 22 points and grabbing 23 rebounds. Preston Paterson had 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Corey Shelton had 11 points and seven boards.

The Celtics had only 12 turnovers to CCU’s 17, but the Eagles shot and rebounded the ball better. CCU out-rebounded Carlow, 51-31.

The Celtics (5-18/5-9/0-1) shot 38.4 percent (28-of-73) from the field, 15 percent (3-of-20) from 3, and 66.7 percent (8-of-12) from the foul line.

CCU shot 41.7 percent (30-of-72) from the field, 27.3 percent (6-of-22) from 3, and 65.2 percent (15-of-23) from the free-throw line.

The Celtics next play Tuesday, Feb. 13 at (RV) WVU Tech.
