Celtics compete at inaugural RSC Indoor Track & Field Championships

Carlow University competed in the inaugural River States Conference Men's Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, Feb. 9 at Tiffin University's Heminger Center.

Point Park University won the team title, with 188 points, and University of Rio Grande took second place, with 162 points. WVU Tech placed third, with 98 points, and Ohio Christian finished fourth, with 67 points. Rounding out the team standings were IU East (55), Brescia (21) and Carlow (13).

The top three finishers in each event earned All-RSC honors, and the top six placements earned points for their teams. Scorers earned 10 points for first place, eight for second, six for third, four for fourth, two for fifth and one for sixth. All event winners established RSC indoor meet records since it was the first conference indoor meet held.

Javondii Myers (SO/Columbia, S.C.) led the Celtics with a second-place finish in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.90 meters. Point Park’s Michael Morris edged him for the win with a jump of 1.95 meters.

Carlow’s other point scorers were Evan Bopp (FR/Ebensburg, Pa.), Matt Cannon (FR/Monongahela, Pa.), Cameron Short (FR/West Mifflin, Pa.) and Christopher Woodley (JR/Northern Cambria, Pa.).

The group combined to take fourth place in the 4x400-meter relay, with a time of 4.35.55, and sixth place in the 4x400-meter distance medley relay, with a time of 12.39.37.

The Celtics next compete Feb. 17 at the Kent State Tune Up, at Kent State (Ohio) University.
