The Carlow women’s basketball team edged Penn State Beaver, 44-42, in USCAA action on the road Tuesday, Jan. 23.
The Celtics, who defeated the Roaring Lions, 69-38, at home on Nov. 21, completed the home-and-away sweep of first-year Carlow head coach Tim Moore’s former squad.
Reanna Turner (SO/Pittsburgh, Pa.) led the Celtics (4-11/1-7/3-2) in scoring, with 11 points, and Chanel Sparks (SR/Columbia, Md.) added nine. Emma Stille (SO/Columbus, Ohio) grabbed 15 rebounds with her six points.
Beaver’s Brittany Jackson led all scorers with 16 points, to go with eight rebounds and four steals. Ally Rudolph added 12 points for the Roaring Lions (5-12).
The Celtics ran away with the first matchup this season, but the Roaring Lions made this one much tougher. The contest featured four lead changes and three ties, and Carlow’s advantage was never larger than eight points.
The Celtics led, 21-20, at halftime and used a 10-3 third quarter advantage to get some breathing room. The Roaring Lions outscored Carlow, 19-13, in the fourth quarter and took a 38-37 lead with 3:18 to play. But four different Celtics chipped in to help Carlow close the game on a 7-4 run.
The Celtics return to River States Conference play with their upcoming Kentucky road trip, taking on Alice Lloyd (14-3/8-2) on Thursday and Asbury (5-16/2-8) on Saturday.
