No. 21 Indiana University Southeast put away the Carlow men’s basketball team, 83-53, on Jan. 18, at Oakland Catholic.
The Grenadiers (12-6) moved their conference record to 6-2 to remain firmly atop the RSC West Division. The Celtics (3-13/3-4/0-1) are currently in third place in the East Division, with nine conference games remaining.
IUS pulled away in the middle of the first half with a 15-0 run, turning a 16-14 lead into a 31-14 lead in 6:25. The Grenadiers led, 52-27, by halftime.
The Grenadiers played stifling defense and turned it into offense. They scored 46 points off 29 Carlow turnovers. They also won the rebounded battle, 47-38, and got 13 second chance points.
The Celtics, playing without leading scorer and rebounder Charlie Scharbo (SR/Jefferson Hills, Pa.), struggled to find a source of offense. They shot 33.9 percent (19-of-56) from the field, 32 percent (8-of-25) from 3, and 50 percent (7-of-14) from the foul line.
Carlow was led by Miles Sunder (SR/Jeannette, Pa.) and Swade Redman (FR/Jeannette, Pa.) with nine points apiece. Rece Henneman (JR/Clarksville, Pa.) grabbed six rebounds.
Jamie Johnson scored 14 points to lead IUS. Jared Osborne added 10 points and Joe Jackson had nine points and nine rebounds.
The Celtics next host Brescia (6-11/4-3) in another RSC divisional crossover matchup at 1pm Saturday.
