The Carlow women’s basketball team dropped a River States Conference game at Midway University, 76-65, on Saturday, Jan. 6.
Emma Stille (SO/Columbus, Ohio) led the Celtics with her fifth double-double of the season, with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Stille, who leads NAIA Division II averaging 14 rebounds per game, added three assists and two blocks.
The Celtics (2-8/0-5/2-1) hung with Midway (9-7/3-3) through the first quarter, trailing, 21-17. However, the Eagles gained control, 45-26, by halftime, and took their largest lead of 21 points with their first shot of the second half. The Celtics fought back to within eight points, 63-55, with 6:19 left in the contest, but could get no closer.
Carlow won the boards, out-rebounding Midway, 41-36. But the Eagles shot 47.6 percent from the field to the Celtics’ 36.8 percent.
Kelsee Kinder scored 22 points and dished six assists to lead four Eagles in double figures. Rachel Carter had 15 points and nine rebounds, Courtney Pfister and Haleigh Yazell scored 10 points apiece.
Delaney Daly (SO/Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 15 points for Carlow, which returns home at 6pm Tuesday, Jan. 9, against Ohio Christian University (7-9/0-5).
