The Carlow men’s basketball team closed out 2017 and its challenging non-conference slate against Tiffin University on Saturday, Dec. 30.
The Celtics (1-11/1-2/0-1) fell to the Dragons, 85-56, wrapping up eight NCAA Division II games in preparation for the majority of their River States Conference schedule. Carlow hosts Indiana University Kokomo on Jan. 2.
The Celtics played with a lot of energy and allowed their second fewest points of the season, but Tiffin, a member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, had a size advantage at every position that was too much to overcome.
The Dragons (4-8) out-rebounded Carlow, 46-24, and scored 14 second-chance points in the physical contest. Tiffin jumped to a 10-0 lead and coasted to a 40-25 advantage by the end of the first half.
The Celtics were led by Charlie Scharbo (SR/Jefferson Hills, Pa.), with 17 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
Tristan Popa and Austin Adams paced Tiffin with 18 points apiece. Adams added nine rebounds. Shane Waldon scored 16 points for the Dragons.
