The Carlow men’s basketball team earned its first win of the season on the road, 85-74, against Point Park University, on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
The victory gave the Celtics back-to-back wins against their River States Conference foe and crosstown rival Pioneers, whom they knocked off 75-74 in overtime Feb. 7, 2017.
Charlie Scharbo (SR/Jefferson Hills, Pa.) led five Celtics scoring in double figures. He finished with a season-high 22 points, along with nine rebounds, five blocks and three assists.
Tony Acrie (JR/Johnstown, Pa.) had 13 points and four assists. Austin Matta (JR/Elizabeth, Pa.) had 12 points, three steals and three blocks. Zach Bryan (SR/Irwin, Pa.) had 11 points, six rebounds and five assists. Rece Henneman (JR/Clarksville, Pa.) had 11 points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Swade Redman (FR/Jeannette, Pa.) had a team-high four steals, with four assists.
It was a convincing win for Carlow, which led, 41-31, at halftime, and held a 24-point advantage with 8:15 to play in the game. The Pioneers never led by more than one point, early in the first half.
The Celtics (1-7/1-2/0-1) shot the ball well from everywhere on the floor. They converted 44.6 percent (29-of-65) from the field, 40 percent (8-of-20) from 3, and 82.6 percent (19-of-23) from the free-throw line.
Meanwhile, they held the Pioneers to 36.1 percent (26-of-72) shooting from the field, 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from 3, and 75 percent (18-of-24) from the foul line.
Daniel King led all scorers with 33 points, while Rushan Roberts added 10 points for Point Park. Fousseini Konate grabbed 10 rebounds for the Pioneers (3-7/1-2).
Carlow next plays Sunday, Dec. 10, at Slippery Rock University.
