Celtics set to compete in inaugural indoor track and field meet

The inaugural season of Carlow University indoor track and field begins Saturday, Dec. 2, at the Mount Union Toy Drive Invite, in Alliance, Ohio.

The Celtics will be head coached by Greg Schmitt, a former Youngstown State University runner and Laurel High School head coach who has served as the Carlow cross country head coach since 2015. Assisting on Schmitt’s coaching staff are Christian Booker (throws), Jessica Brennan (jumps), Zach Albright (sprints) and Connor Mulvaney (multi-event).

Carlow will compete with 32 women and 20 men. The women’s team will be led by captains Leanne Glaub (JR/West Seneca, N.Y.), Larissa Kijowski (FR/Dayton, Pa.), Bailey Klems (JR/Lower Burrell, Pa.) and Anna Sack (FR/Monongahela, Pa.). The men’s team captains are Christopher Woodley (JR/Northern Cambria, Pa.), Blake Wargo (JR/Milton, Pa.), Javondii Myers (SO/Columbia, S.C.) and Zachary Byczynski (SO/Finleyville, Pa.)

The Celtics have seven indoor meets on their schedule this winter, including the River States Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, which will be held Feb. 9 at Tiffin (Ohio) University. The event is a qualifier for the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships.

Carlow will compete in its inaugural outdoor track and field season this spring.
