Celtics finish season strong at RSC Championship

The Carlow women’s cross country team had a strong performance to wrap up the 2017 season at the River States Conference Championship, on Saturday, Nov. 4, at Asbury University.

The Celtics finished ninth out of 12 teams, behind Amanda Espy (FR/Oil City, Pa.), who placed 17th overall in the field of 96 runners from 12 RSC institutions.

Point Park won the team title, led by overall winner Anna Shields, with a time of 18:22.7. The Pioneers had a total time of 1:41.06 and an average time of 20:14. Ohio Christian took second place, and will join the Pioneers in competing at the NAIA National Championship.

The top six individual finishers not on the first- and second-place teams also qualify for nationals. Espy’s finish was just three runners outside of that group.

Larissa Kijowski (FR/Dayton, Pa.) finished in the 33rd position for Carlow, running 22:33.7. Also for Carlow, Olivia Miller (FR/Bolivar, Pa.) was 59th in 23:51.4, Leanne Glaub (JR/West Seneca, N.Y.) was 63rd in 24:03.8, Hannah Thornton (FR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) was 64th in 24:06.2, Lea Chwilka (SR/Coraopolis, Pa.), and Megan Horgan (SO/Bethel Park, Pa.) was 72nd in 25:29.7.

Glaub was also selected as Carlow's representative to the RSC Champions of Character team.

All the Carlow runners will be back in action soon, competing for the Celtics’ indoor and outdoor inaugural track and field team.
