Shaw shuts out Celtics in men’s soccer

The Carlow men’s soccer team fell 8-0 to NCAA Division II Shaw University on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Highmark Stadium.

Thilo Wilke scored the Bears’ first two goals, one in the second minute and another in the 26th minute, assisted by Thiago Sooma.

Zola Mafolo Rodriguez headed in a corner kick by Nicholas Madrid in the 39th minute, to send Shaw to halftime with a 3-0 lead.

Fernando Lisboa and Theo Newton added goals early in the second half. In the last 15 minutes, Lane Vidaurri and Enrico Baldon netted two goals apiece.

Mynor Martinez and Axel Lanzas split the shut out in goal for Shaw, each making a save.

The Celtics (0-5-1/0-0/0-1-1) next host Westminster College on Sept. 21, at Highmark Stadium.
