The Carlow women’s soccer team shut out the University of Pikeville, 7-0, for their third win, Friday, Sept. 15, at Highmark Stadium.
Kristina Wallace (JR/Jeannette, Pa.) facilitated the offense with three assists to three different goal scorers. She took two corner kicks, one of which went for Carlow’s third goal, in the 49th minute, by Rachel Flory (SO/Huntington Beach, Calif.).
Five other Celtics scored in the contest, in addition to an own goal by a Pikeville defender in the 59th minute.
Lexie Houk (SO/Racine, Pa.) struck first, tracking down the rebound of a free kick and putting it in the net in the 30th minute.
Four minutes later, Emily Emge (JR/Beaver Falls, Pa.) gave Carlow a 2-0 lead with a lob over the Pikeville goalkeeper’s head.
Cayla Imbarlina (SR/North Huntington, Pa.) and Malak Shuman (SO/Monroeville, Pa.) each scored on a cross in the box from Wallace in the second half.
Shuman’s goal was her team-leading sixth on the season, tying her total from the 2016 season.
Lexie Mirenda (SR/Altoona, Pa.) earned the shut out in goal, making four saves on the four shots she faced.
The Celtics (3-1/0-0) next host Shaw (N.C.) University at 5pm Sept. 21.
