Celtics shut out Penn State Beaver, 10-0

The Carlow women’s soccer team shut out Penn State Beaver in a USCAA matchup Thursday, Sept. 7, at Highmark Stadium.

The Celtics (2-0, 0-0 RSC, 2-0 USCAA) earned an 10-0 victory in the USCAA matchup, after opening up a 7-0 lead by halftime.

Eight different players scored for Carlow, led by Lexie Houk (SO/Racine, Pa.), who had two goals and one assist. Riley Walsh (JR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) also netted two goals.

Malak Shuman (SO/Monroeville, Pa.), who posted four goals and one assist in the season opener, opened the scoring in the first minute of play. She also added an assist on the game’s second goal, by Houk, just 3:51 later.

Kristina Wallace (JR/Jeannette, Pa.) scored one goal and dished two assists for the second straight game.

Stacey Sikora (SR/Vandergrift, Pa.) and Franki Berarducci (JR/West Newton, Pa.) had one goal and one assist apiece. Alexa Mermigas (SR/Wexford, Pa.) and Emily Emge (JR/Beaver Falls, Pa.) added a goal apiece.

Lexie Mirenda (SR/Altoona, Pa.) and Paige Schindehette (FR/Bethel Park, Pa.) each played a half in goal.

The Celtics earned 22 shots on goal and 11 corner kicks in the contest, while Beaver took no shots and no corners.

The Celtics go on the road Monday, Sept. 11 to take on NCAA DII opponent Lake Erie College. The Storm defeated Carlow, 3-0, this past season. They are 0-3 this season, including two overtime losses, against fellow DII teams Ashland, Ursuline, and Daemen.
