The Carlow volleyball team opened its season at the UM-Dearborn Early Bird Challenge on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25-26.
The Celtics (0-4/0-0 RSC) fell to Lawrence Technological Institute, 3-0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-23), and Indiana University South Bend, 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-15) on Friday.
They closed out the weekend with a 3-0 (25-17, 34-32, 25-17) loss to University of Michigan-Dearborn and a 3-0 (25-14, 25-22-25-10) loss to No. 24 Madonna University on Saturday. The undefeated Crusaders swept the tournament with four victories.
Carlow libero Mia Marmion (SR/Upper St. Clair, Pa.) was selected to the all-tournament team. She finished the weekend with 63 digs and three serving aces.
Kristina Hudock (SR/Uniontown, Pa.) led the Celtics with 32 kills on 114 attempts. She also added 33 digs. Michaela Koran (JR/North Olmsted, Ohio) had a team-leading 52 assists. Shelby Greece (SO/Vandergrift, Pa.) had an efficient tournament, with eight kills on 21 attempts.
The Celtics next play Penn State Beaver at the PSU Beaver Tip Off Tournament at 12pm Sept. 1.
