Celtics push Point Park to the brink

Point Park needed an 11-0 run down the stretch to put away the Carlow men’s basketball team, 90-83, on Monday, December 12, at CCAC South.

The run, which brought the score from 65-62 to 76-62, and ended with 4:20 remaining, gave the Pioneers the first double-digit lead of the contest for either team.

The Pioneers led, 37-33, at the half in a game that featured eight lead changes.

Carlow got double-figure scoring from each of its five starters – Jacob St. George (SO*/Monaca, Pa.), Miles Sunder (JR/Jeannette, Pa.), Zach Bryan (JR/Irwin, Pa.), Charlie Scharbo (JR/Jefferson Hills, Pa.) and PJ McLaughlin (SR*/Irwin, Pa.).

Scharbo posted a double-double, with 12 points and 13 rebounds. St. George had 20 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Sunder had 17 points and nine boards. Bryan had 15 points and six assists. McLaughlin had 10 points and seven rebounds.

Kenny Strong led Point Park with 27 points and six rebounds.

With the win, the Pioneers (5-6) moved their River States Conference record to 3-0 and their home record to 4-1.

The Celtics (2-10/1-2) finish the 2016 year on the road for two non-conference matchups – California University of Pennsylvania, on Saturday, and Tiffin University on December 30.
