The Carlow men’s basketball team fell to No. 19 University of Pikeville (Ky.), 99-65, on Friday, Nov. 11, in the Walters Auto Classic.
Undefeated Pikeville (7-0) led by as many as 27 points in the first half, and by 18 at halftime. The Celtics cut the lead to 11 points with 11 minutes remaining in the game, but the Bears put it away with accuracy and foul shots.
Pikeville went on a 15-0 run and shot 11 straight free-throws to break the game open in the final minute. On the evening, the Bears outshot Carlow, 50 percent to 40 percent, and forced the Celtics into 25 turnovers, which they turned into 37 points.
Charlie Scharbo (JR/Jefferson Hills, Pa.) paced Carlow with his third straight double-double. He scored 12 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. He also led the team in assists, with five, and blocks, with three.
Cameron Sarber (SO/Jefferson Hills, Pa.) was the Celtics’ leading scorer, with 15 points.
Carlow (0-4), which has now faced three ranked opponents in four games, has another tough battle Saturday, against No. 1 University of St. Francis (Ind.).
