Evans double-double fuels Celtics victory


The Carlow women’s basketball team won its season opener against Penn State Fayette, 55-34, on Thursday, Nov. 10, at Oakland Catholic.

The Celtics (1-0, 0-0 RSC) were fueled by Mariah Evans (FR/Beaver Falls, Pa.), who posted a double-double with 10 points and 15 rebounds in her first career game.

Emma Stille (FR/Columbus, Ohio) also grabbed 10 rebounds. Leah Goodwin (SO/Cincinnati, Ohio) and Kayla Brownlee (SO/Pittsburgh, Pa.) each made three steals. Brownlee also dished five assists.

A strong defensive effort by Carlow held the Roaring Lions to just 10 points at halftime and 21.2% shooting overall. The Celtics also outrebounded Fayette, 61-43.

Carlow next plays Saturday, Nov. 12, at Washington Adventist University. The Celtics return home for their first River States Conference game against WVU Tech on December 2.
