Celtics go 1-3 at St. Vincent tournament


Latrobe, Pa. – The Carlow University volleyball team went 1-3 at the Bearcat Challenge, at St. Vincent College, on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 2-3.

In the first day of tournament action, the Celtics lost, 3-2 (24-26, 19-25, 25-17, 25-17, 15-10), to Muskingum University, then defeated University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg, 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-20).

On the second day, Carlow fell to St. Vincent, 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-23), and Westminster College, 3-1 (22-25, 25-18, 26-24, 25-19).

“The team played very well, but lost against tough teams,” Carlow head coach Julie Gaul said. “We’re close. We just have to break through on the other side. We’re improving every time we play.”

Kristina Hudock (JR/Uniontown, PA) was named to the All-Tournament Team. She compiled 41 kills, 28 digs and two blocks in four matches. In the first two matches, Hudock posted a double-double in kills and digs.

Michaela Koran (SO/North Olmsted, OH) had 115 assists and six serving aces on the weekend. Elizabeth Stadelman (JR/Pittsburgh, PA) led the Celtics with four blocks. Bri Hoodlebrink (FR/Pemberville, OH) had a well-rounded performance, with 34 kills, 40 digs, 12 assists and four serving aces.

The Celtics next host Penn State Fayette, on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 7pm.
