How it Started...
The Youth Media Advocacy Project (YMAP) started in January 2010. In the first six months of the project, high school students:
- Produced a video about education issues and the characteristics of effective teachers, to be aired on community cable TV
- Wrote and recorded a radio ad about negative stereotypes of teenagers, which is airing on a local popular FM music station
- Created print ad concepts about education which are being placed on billboards and in newspapers
- Met with leaders in education and in the media, presented their ideas, and toured radio and TV stations
