Key Focuses

Teaching

Our teaching strategies maximize each student's intellectual potential through exposure to multiple methods of thinking, observing, and using knowledge. We focus on presentation, adaptability, utility, and accuracy. Our pedagogy is outcome-oriented and student-centered -- we cultivate thinkers who are socially conscious humanitarians and leaders.

Scholarship

We emphasize meaningful connections with the community. Faculty and students engage in collaborative/interpretative, participatory, and emancipatory research, and their outcomes are shared through forums and publications. Students involved in research find that it challenges them academically and creatively, and expands their ways of thinking.

Community Engagement

The program encourages work within communities as a way to help prepare students for compassionate service, transformative actions, and greater social responsibility. Through this kind of engagement, students become aware of the power of social change.
