Special education teachers are prepared to teach children with a wide variety of mental, physical, and socioemotional disabilities from three to 21 years of age. The special education program at Carlow University focuses on the practical application of current educational theory which implements best practices in the field. Carlow students have the opportunity to work directly with children with special needs while provided with the necessary guidance from faculty and mentor-teachers to ensure their success.
Special education students are encouraged to consider completing either elementary education or early childhood programs to prepare them for success in the inclusion classroom. Furthermore, students will have a fi eld placement with nearly all of the specialized courses so that they implement theory with practice. Students will learn about various mild, moderate, and profound disabilities.
