Early childhood teachers, through knowledge of developmental theory and appropriate practices, are prepared to work with children from birth through age eight. They are prepared for working and teaching in diverse settings: public and private preschool and child care, primary grades (kindergarten through third grade), corporate, hospital, and nonprofit centers. Students in early childhood are encouraged to consider completing the elementary education or special education programs as well if they wish to broaden professional preparation.
