An overview of the role of play and symbolic representation in the young child?s social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Candidates are able to integrate a playbased curriculum into an early childhood program using current theories and research on the meaning and importance of play in the development of the young child. The development of the capacity for play and fantasy across developmental stages includes the role of play in programs for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children. 3 credits
