IQ Panel Presents at Graduate Colloquium

Katie Miller and Martha Ezzell

Four members of the Interpretive/Qualitative Research at Carlow University presented their work at the 2009 Graduate Colloquium on April 1st. The presenters were as follows:

  • Clare Hopkins – Professor and Interim Associate Dean of the School of Nursing – Clare’s presentation focused on the use of phenomenology in her work concerning spirituality and cancer patients.
  • Judith Toure – Assistant Professor in the School of Education – Judith presented an ethnographical study in schools. She used race and class theory as a foundation for the inquiry.
  • Katie Miller – Student, Professional Leadership Graduate Program – Katie presented a group research project using Appreciative Inquiry as an evaluative tool. The project evaluated a portion of the Professional Leadership Graduate Program.
  • Melissa Swauger – Assistant Professor in the School for Social changed presented a study based in Feminist Theory. It concerned the aspirations of girls from underserved areas. She emphasized the difficulty of getting approval for qualitative studies from Internal Review Boards that normally deal with quantitative research.
  • Martha Ezzell – Professor, Professional Leadership Graduate Program, served as moderator for the panel.

The panel presentations were well received and a lively discussion followed.
