Carlow University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is sponsoring the Carlow
Round Table 2008 in Carlow, Ireland, during May 26–31, 2008.
You are invited to join your colleagues from the administration and
faculty of the conference for Mercy Higher Education Institutions for this
exciting opportunity to exchange ideas, information, and methodologies
among scholars from diverse disciplines and research backgrounds, who
share a common interest in the mission of Mercy education.
Participation is limited to 30. You are invited to submit an abstract for
review on the topic: “How does our pedagogy reflect the hallmarks of a Mercy Education?”
The hallmarks of Mercy Education to be addressed are outlined in the
Conference for Mercy Higher Education White Paper: "Culture and
Characteristics," by Maryann Stevens, RSM, PhD, 6/13/2006. They are:
- Regard for the dignity of the person
- Academic excellence and life-long learning
- Education of the whole person: body, mind, and spirit
- Through action and education, promotion of compassion and
justice towards those with less, especially women and children
The conference committee will select from among the abstracts those
that will be presented at the conference. Abstract submissions should be

at Carlow University, 3333 Fifth Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Deadline for submission is November 30, 2007.
The selection process and notification of presenters will be completed by
December 15, 2007.
Cost for participation in the Round Table, including a single room and
meals, is borne by the invitee or the invitee’s institution. A $2000, fee covers registration, lodging for six nights, six breakfasts, some lunches and dinners, and sightseeing tours. In Carlow town, presenters will be staying at the Seven Oaks Hotel. Transportation
to and from Dublin Airport to Carlow at specified times is also included.
Registration may be completed and a $200 deposit fee may be made
online, or by returning the registration form provided above.
