Women of Spirit® 2010

Carlow University and the Carlow Women of Spirit® Institute presented its 2010 Women of Spirit® Awards to four local awardees and a National Woman of Spirit® award on Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the August Wilson Center for African American Culture in downtown Pittsburgh.

2010 Women of Spirit recipients
Sister Fidelis McDonough, RSM; Dr. Mary Hines; Judith M. Davenport, DMD; Assistant Surgeon General, Dr. James Galloway, who accepted the award on behalf for Dr. Regina Benjamin; Theresa L. Whiteside, PhD.

 

In 2010, the awards reflected the attributes that Carlow celebrates: values, scholarship, and vision, as well as a legacy award for contributions to the social good made over a lifetime. The award recipients were:

NATIONAL WOMAN OF SPIRIT®

Regina M. Benjamin, MD, MBA, the surgeon general of the United States Public Health Service

VALUES

Sister Fidelis McDonough, RSM, director of the Mercy Neighborhood Ministries

SCHOLARSHIP

Theresa L. Whiteside, PhD, laboratory director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute

VISION

Judith M. Davenport, DMD, dentist, cofounder and director of Sheridan Broadcasting Corporation, and community champion

LEGACY

Anne Freyvogel Hanna, philanthropist and volunteer
