Political Science

 

The political science major offers a broad introduction to the study of government and politics. This major uses both humanistic and scientific perspectives and skills to examine dependent political institutions in the United States, interactions among and between global communities, political and economic conflicts, and political behaviors.

The BA in political science prepares students for a wide array of careers (including law) and active citizenship, both domestically and globally.

Political Science Major
Requirements:
36 credits (12 courses) that provide an introduction to political science, American government, global politics or political theory, research methods, and a capstone experience.

Students are also required to complete two courses from both the 300-level political science electives and required cognates. Majors must earn a C or better in any course used to fulfill a major requirement.

Political Science Minor
The political science minor may appeal to students who are interested in government relations, the practice of law, journalism, intelligence, international relations, and lobbying. The minor requires POL 101 and five political science electives; 12 credits must by completed in residence at Carlow.
