CSC 110 Computer Science I – Introduction to Computer Programming and Software Development
Introduces many key concepts of computer science in the context of developing Web-based applications. The student is introduced to the model of networked computer systems and learns fundamental computer programming and software development principles. (The JAVA programming language is used.) Three hours of lecture and one two-hour laboratory weekly. Prerequisite: permission of instructor. 4 credits

CSC 330 System Level Programming
Provides students with a user-level view of processors, networks, and operating systems. Students learn explicitly about assemblers and assembly code, program performance measurement and optimization, memory organization and hierarchies, network protocols and operation, and concurrency. (The C programming language is used.) Three hours of lecture and one two-hour laboratory weekly. Prerequisites: CSC 120 and CSC 250. 4 credits

CSC 350 Database Systems
Introduces students to database concepts including database design. Relational models are emphasized. Students develop client-server applications using commercial database management systems. Three hours of lecture and one two-hour laboratory weekly. Prerequisites: CSC 120 and CSC 250. 4 credits

CSC 370 Networks and Distributed Computing
Focuses on principles and practices of network-based computing including an overview of networking technology in support of data and multimedia communication. Three hours of lecture and one two-hour laboratory weekly. Prerequisite: CSC 350. 4 credits

CSC 382/383 Special Studies in Software Systems
Topics vary but regularly include Operating Systems (382) and Linux (383). Prerequisite: permission of instructor or specifi ed courses depending on topic. 3 or 4 credits depending on whether a scheduled weekly laboratory/recitation is included

CSC 388/389 Special Studies in Computer Systems
Topics vary but regularly include Computer Graphics (388) and will include Programming Languages. Prerequisite: permission of instructor or specifi ed courses depending on topic. 3 or 4 credits depending on whether a scheduled weekly laboratory/recitation is included

CSC 399/401 Junior Seminar
Junior Computer Science majors research current trends and topics of interest in an area of computer science and present a seminar and paper devoted to this topic. Students work in conjunction with a faculty mentor. The course covers topics in scientific research and presentation. One hour of seminar per week. 1 credit each

CSC 402/403 Senior Experience
An independent, professional experience within the field of Computer Science, designed in consultation with a faculty mentor. May involve independent research, an internship, or an independent project. One hour of seminar per week, plus additional time as needed. 2 credits each

CSC 420 Software Specification, Testing and Maintenance
Focuses on the principles of development of software systems according to software engineering practices. Students work in multi-person teams on software projects of significant scale. Three hours of lecture and one two-hour laboratory weekly. Prerequisites: CSC 220 and CSC 350. 4 credits

CSC 450 Software Project Organization and Management
Focuses on the organizational and management aspects of software projects. Students learn techniques of project planning, scheduling, costing, and organization and apply them in the context of a multi-person team project. A key component is management of end-user issues. Three hours of lecture and one two-hour laboratory weekly. Prerequisite: CSC 420. 4 credits

CSC 486/487 Special Studies in Computer Science
Topics vary but may be selected from the following general areas: artificial intelligence, computational science, numerical analysis. Prerequisite: permission of instructor or specified courses depending on topic. 3 or 4 credits depending on whether a scheduled weekly laboratory/recitation is included
