English as Second Language Course Descriptions

ESL 101 Intensive Writing
An intensive experience for students who are developing advanced writing skills in English as a second language; reading, grammar, and vocabulary skills are a secondary focus. The students work in a collaborative manner, using formats and materials appropriate for academic writing in U.S. institutions of higher education. Students examine the relationship of critical reading and thinking to good writing. Credit varies

ESL 401 Advanced Listening and Speaking
Maximum opportunities for students to develop advanced listening and speaking skills in English as a second language; reading and writing skills are a secondary focus. Students examine U.S. higher education contexts, focusing on meaningful classroom exchange of ideas and information. 3 credits
