FYE Manual (PDF)

All first-year, full-time, day undergraduate students must take an FYE course during their first semester at Carlow.

This requirement can be met by completing FY 101 or by completing a first-year seminar in a student's academic division or special program. One of the key components of FYE is the introduction to the electronic portfolio. Each student is to create her/his electronic portfolio early in the fall semester in her/his FYE course. Another component of FYE is service learning. Adult students may complete the FYE requirement by taking designated semester length sections of Adults Returning to College (CAA 150).

FYE is graded on a pass or fail basis. Those students who do not pass FYE are required to take an independent study in FYE during their second semester at Carlow. This will also be graded on a pass or fail basis.

FY 101 First Year Experience
The goals of the First Year Experience course are to orient students to the academic community and academic success; to connect students with Carlow College, the history and mission of the college, its support services and departments; and to connect students with other students and faculty. Simultaneously, the student explores career and academic goals. The course is graded on a pass or fail basis. Students in Nursing, Social Sciences, Business Management, and Natural Sciences and Mathematics enroll in divisional one-credit first year experience courses. 1 credit
