Skills Training

Training classes are offered each semester. The clients may choose from the following options (this is an average offering, it varies from semester to semester depending on client need and teacher availability):

Basic Math Brush Up - Students are pre-tested and the course is developed to fit the needs of the students. A post-test is administered at the completion of class. Alleviating the fear of math as well as refreshing number operations is the main goal of this course.

College Prep English - This course is designed to provide a review of the basics of spelling, grammar and punctuation. Writing assignments are required and will be critiqued for structure and content.

Keyboarding/Introduction to Windows - A basic introduction to the keyboard. The class is taught on computers with Microsoft Windows software.

Introduction to Computers - Students are introduced to the Windows Operating System, the internet and all applications of the Microsoft Office package.

Microsoft Word - This course teaches the use of word processing for all office functions using the most current Microsoft Word application.

Microsoft Excel - This course teaches the use of the popular Microsoft Excel application which is a spreadsheet package used by many companies for accounting and bookkeeping. Minimum keyboarding skills are required.

Microsoft Access - This course teaches students how to design and maintain a database using Microsoft Access.

Microsoft Word Advance - This course takes the students beyond the basics where they will learn more advanced features of the Microsoft Word program. Mail merging and creative uses of the program will be covered.

Medical Terminology - This course is designed to acquaint those students interested in a job in the medical field with basic medical terminology and general coding procedures.

How to Start a Small Business - Students will be given the nuts and bolts of starting a small business from a market review to a business plan.

Computer Repair - This course is the first step in preparing a student to take the A+ Certification for PC Computer Repair. Students learn through lectures, readings and hands-on lab time.
