The Carlow University women's soccer team started competition in 1999-2000 and made its first playoff appearance in 2000-01. Since then, the Celtics have made numerous playoff appearances, first in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) and then in the River States Conference (RSC). In 2012, the team captured the KIAC Championship and qualified for the NAIA National Tournament.
The Celtics play their home games at Highmark Stadium, the city's newest professional stadium, located on the shore of the Monongahela River in Station Square, an entertainment complex on Pittsburgh's South Side just 15 minutes from Carlow's Oakland campus. The team competes in at least 18 contests per season as a member of the RSC.
