  • Contact Campus Life

  • We know that starting at a University can be an exciting and sometimes confusing experience. Your New Student Orientation is designed to alleviate some of the common issues that new students face on campus. With this in mind, we know that you have questions, and below are answers to some of the more common questions we hear on a regular basis. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us at 412.578.6573.

If I’m living on campus, when will I move in?
Move-in day is Wednesday, August 20, 2014. Move-in information is here and in the orientation package you received in the mail where you will find all the information that you need to know about moving into Carlow University. This includes a day and time for move-in as well as whom your roommate is!

When is my Housing Contract due?
In your New Student Orientation mailing that you received there is a housing contract inserted into the booklet. Please fill this contract out and return it to the Office of Campus Life no later then August 1, 2014.

What are the rooms like and what can I bring?
You'll find FAQs and a comprehensive list of what is in your residence hall and what you should (and can't) bring with you for on-campus housing.

Who is my First Year Mentor?
You will find out who your First Year Mentor is sometime during the summer. This First Year Mentor will be your contact to Carlow University during the summer, the whole orientation process, your First Year Seminar (FYS) class, and will be available at all times to answer any and all questions that you may have regarding Carlow University.

Are accommodations provided during the Orientation program?
Students living in the residence hall will stay in the residence hall. Parents and families can find local accommodations in the Nearby Accommodations page of this website.

My family can only stay for a short time, what programs are the most important?
It is a good idea to review the family information that was sent in your orientation package at the beginning of July before coming to campus. That way your family can decide what is important to them. Also take a look at the Just for Families page for more information. This is a very important time in your family's life as well, so we provide many programs of interest and relevance to them.

Are events marked MANDATORY really mandatory?

ABSOLUTELY! As a Carlow community, we have selected programs that we feel are invaluable for you as a new student, and because of this we will be taking attendance at these events marked mandatory.

Where can I go if I need help during Orientation?

Everyone at Carlow University is here to help you, however if you find yourself in need of some assistance there are two main sources. You can always ask the Dispatcher at the front desk in Frances Warde Hall. But more importantly please direct your questions to the First Year Mentors and your Residence Assistants. These students know everything there is to know about Orientation and can answer all of your questions!

    What is the Carlow Card?
The Carlow Card is your student identification card. It is your access card to your residence hall, fitness centers, libraries, computer labs, in fact any building on campus, and access to your meal plan. You will be given this card at either move-in for resident students, or orientation check-in for transfers and commuters.

How do I get involved in student organizations?
Throughout Orientation there will be various opportunities to become familiar with student organizations. One of the most popular events, the Student Activities Fair, occurs every August. This is an opportunity to meet all of the student organizations, learn about what they do, and sign up to become a member.

Do I have to fill out the Student Health Form that I received during the Admissions Process?
Yes! If you do not fill out this information you will not be able to move into the residence halls or schedule your spring term classes.

How do I log into my Carlow email and what other technology resources should I know about?
Visit this checklist to get acquainted with the essential technology tools you will need to be successful at Carlow. Yes, there are a lot of new tech tools to learn, but First Year Mentors, faculty, and staff will be there to help!
