As a graduate of the program, you may obtain Pennsylvania special education certification in Pre-K-8, (3 years through eighth grade) and/or 7–12, (seventh grade through 21 years of age). To be considered highly qualified under the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE), a special education teacher must “complete an academic major or course work equivalent to an academic major at the Pre-K-4, 4-8, or 7-12 levels.” Therefore, to enter into the special education graduate program, you must be a certified teacher in another content area.
