Coach Rowland assisted in starting Carlow University’s first Men’s Intercollegiate Sport team in 2012. He has been a competitive runner – cross country and track and field – for 10+ years in high school, college, marathons (Pittsburgh and Boston), and other local races. Rowland earned his degree in Elementary Education from Point Park University. He is Director of Youth Ministries at Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church serving Middle School and High School Students. Rowland lives in Highland Park with his wife and new baby girl, Eliana.
Coach Schmitt joined Carlow’s Staff in August 2014 and brings with him a wealth of Coaching knowledge as well as personal running experience. He served as the Head Cross Country Coach at Laurel High School from 2008-2013 as well as running collegiately at Youngstown State and has been a member of the BROOKS ID Program since 2009.
His time at Laurel High School was marked by numerous successes including:
Overall Varsity Dual Meet Boys and Girls combined Record – 70 wins, 70.7 winning percentage, Two-Time Section 1; AA Champions; Two-time WPIAL (District 7) A Champions; and Coached 29 PIAA State qualifiers, including 4 Medalists as well as 14 WPIAL Medalists. On a personal level he has been a runner since High School and was a two year letter winner in Track and Field at Youngstown State University.
His running accomplishments include being a member of the 2003 Indoor Horizon League Conference Championship team, two-time State Games of America (SGA) National Champion, and USA 25k National Qualifier for the seeded race.
