The Center for Academic Achievement (CAA) helps students succeed through individual and group tutoring as well as workshops in writing, research, and learning and study strategies. Students can make an appointment using the CAA Online Scheduling System.
Tutoring at the CAA is provided by more than 40 peer tutors and a five-person professional staff. Peer tutors are current Carlow students who have mastered the skills and material for specific courses, have been recommended by Carlow faculty, and are trained in facilitating individual and group tutoring sessions, including exam reviews. Tutor training is Level 1-Certified by the College Reading and Learning Association, which “sets an internationally accepted standard of skills and training for tutors.”
Professional staff members are specialists in their fields with many years of teaching experience. In addition to one-on-one tutoring, they facilitate workshops on learning and study strategies and faculty-requested workshops on writing and research skills.
The CAA's Academic Coach provides one-to-one mentoring and guidance to prepare for tests, conquer procrastination, get organized, and read and study more effectively. The coach can help students build confidence and connect to campus resources.
