Students apply for graduation based on the term in which they anticipate completing their final degree requirements. For instance, if you anticipate completing all your degree requirements in Spring, you would apply to be a May graduate. If you anticipate completing all your degree requirements in Summer, you would apply to be an August graduate.
May graduates need to submit an application to graduate to the Student Hub by Monday January 30th. August graduates need to submit an application to graduate to the Student Hub by Monday, February 27th. Please turn in the Application for Graduation [PDF] to the Student Hub. The Registrar's office will then send you an official letter informing you that you're on the graduation list.
Prepare for Commencement Day! Once you have received your letter announcing you're on the graduation list you're almost there....it's the home stretch. You've got three easy steps to do to get ready for the big day. Go!
- RSVP (and request tickets) between March 20 and April 21
- Buy your cap and gown
- Invite your family and friends!
The RSVP form will go live on Monday, March 20th at 10:00 a.m.
If you plan to attend the ceremony, RSVP your intention to participate by filling out the online form (note: this is different than your Application for Graduation). You will indicate that you are attending and request tickets for your guests, as well as tell us how you would like to hear your name read on stage (and provide us with pronunciation tips). The deadline to rsvp and request tickets is April 21 at 3pm. Graduates who RSVP after the deadline are guaranteed only two (2) tickets for the ceremony.
Caps & Gowns
Caps and gowns may be purchased at the bookstore. Preorder regalia online at this link. Regalia can be preordered online until March 13, 2017.
The bookstore will sell caps and gowns at the Grad Fair on April 18 and 19 from 12-2pm and 4-6pm. After the Grad Fair, they can be purchased until the week of graduation. Call the bookstore at 412.578.6164 for hours and information about caps and gowns.
Undergraduates who are to graduate with Honors will be mailed a letter indicating which honors designation they earned (cum laude, magna cum laude, summa cum laude). Honors cords can be picked up from the bookstore or at the Grad Fair. They will also be available at the check-in table the day of Commencement. Your name must be on the honors list in order to obtain an honors cord. There is no charge for the honors cord.
Honors are for undergraduates only. Please read Honors and Awards for Graduating Seniors section in the undergraduate catalog for information on the requirements. If you did not receive a letter by March 20, and you feel you have earned honors, please contact the Commencement information line at 412.578.8821 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Carlow University will provide a complimentary veteran's stole to graduating students who are active military, reserve, or who retired or received an honorary discharge from any branch of the United States Armed Forces. The stole may be picked up at the Grad Fair or at the Commencement ceremony.
Guests & Ticket Distribution
All guests (including small children) attending Commencement must present a ticket upon entering the auditorium. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Graduates may have up to 4 guests. Graduates who RSVP after the deadline are only guaranteed two (2) tickets. The deadline to RSVP is April 21 at 3pm. Graduates do not need a ticket for themselves. Your tickets will be available for pick up at the Grad Fair on April 18 and 19. After the Grad Fair, they will be mailed to the address you provided on your RSVP form.
