The Carlow men’s and women’s track and field team competed in the Youngstown State University College Invite, at the Watson and Tressel Training Site, on Friday, Jan. 19.
More than 1,200 athletes from 27 schools, mostly NCAA Division I and Division II schools, were in action.
Javondii Myers (SO/Columbia, S.C.) had the highest finish for Carlow, with his performance in the high jump. He cleared the third highest height among 38 athletes and finished tied for fifth place, clearing 6-5.75 feet. He narrowly missed the NAIA “A” qualifying standard of 6-7.25 feet, after clearing the “B” standard earlier this season.
Clare Brown (JR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) finished 19th of 33 runners in the women’s 5000-meter run, with a time of 20:01.58.
Larissa Kijowski (FR/Dayton, Pa.) finished 20th of 66 runners in the women’s 800-meter run, with a time of 2:22.62. She had the second-highest finish of competitors not from NCAA DI or DII schools, behind Point Park’s Anna Shields, who ran 2:12.23 for fourth place overall and the fastest time in the NAIA this season.
Amanda Espy (FR/Oil City, Pa.) won her heat and finished 30th overall in the women's 3000-meter run, with a time of 11:40.98.
Matt Cannon (FR/Monongahela, Pa.) had a strong performance in the men’s 200-meter dash, clocking 24.3 to finish 52nd among 80 runners.
The Celtics next compete at the SPIRE Mid West Indoor Track & Field Open, on Jan. 27, in Geneva, Ohio.
