The Carlow women’s basketball team started 2018 with a River States Conference loss, 79-50, to Indiana University Kokomo on Tuesday, Jan. 2.
Celtics forward Emma Stille (SO/Columbus, Ohio) posted her second-straight double-double, and her fourth of the season, tallying 10 points and 14 rebounds.
However, the visiting Cougars (9-6/2-3) took the lead immediately and never relinquished it. IU Kokomo shot 50 percent (29-of-58) from the field, taking a 39-22 lead by halftime and coasting to victory with four players scoring in double figures.
Deja Felder finished with 18 points, Dejianna Butler with 16, Whitney Williamson with 13 and TaSeandra Parker with 11. Williamson led the Cougars with eight rebounds, Parker had three steals and MacKenzie Johnson had five assists.
Carlow won the rebounding battle, 37-33, but had 19 turnovers to the Cougars’ 13. The Celtics also shot just 31.7 percent (20-of-63) from the field, 15 percent (3-of-20) from 3, and 50 percent (7-of-14) from the foul line.
The Celtics next travel to Midway on Saturday, Jan. 6.
