Christian leads Rio offense past Celtics

The Carlow men's basketball team dropped a River States Conference game on the road to the University of Rio Grande (Ohio), 98-66, on Saturday, Dec. 2.

The Celtics were led by Tony Acrie (JR/Johnstown, Pa.) and Charlie Scharbo (SR/Jefferson Hills, Pa.). Acrie posted 15 points and four rebounds, while Scharbo had 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

The Celtics had their hands full with Rio Grande’s 6’7” forward Stanley Christian, who piled up 19 points. He also grabbed eight rebounds, leading the RedStorm on the glass as they out rebounded Carlow, 45-34.

It was also the second straight game in which Carlow’s opponent shot at least 50 percent from the field. The RedStorm finished the contest shooting 53.6 percent on 37-69.

Carlow next plays at Point Park University on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
