RedStorm defense flusters Celtics

The Carlow women’s basketball team dropped a River States Conference game on the road to the University of Rio Grande (Ohio), 72-53, on Saturday, Dec. 2.

The Celtics were led by Alexis Yanief (SR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Chanel Sparks (SR/Columbia, Md.) with 11 points apiece. Emma Stille (SO/Columbus, Ohio) had a team-high seven rebounds, while Yanief and Noelle Vallimont (SR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) each added five boards.

Alexis Payne had a double-double for Rio Grande, with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Jaida Carter and Sydney Holden added 15 points for the RedStorm.

Abby Wendel made four steals to lead Rio Grande’s impressive defensive effort. The RedStorm made 17 steals and forced Carlow into 26 turnovers in the contest.

Carlow next plays at Point Park University on Tuesday, Dec. 5.
