Carlow fights to scoreless draw with CCU in RSC opener

The Carlow women’s soccer team tied Cincinnati Christian, 0-0, in double overtime on the road, in its River States Conference opener Thursday, Sept. 28.

Celtics’ goalkeeper Lexie Mirenda (SR/Altoona, Pa.) made eight saves in 110 minutes for her third shutout of the season.

Carlow held the offensive advantage for the match, but could not capitalize. The Celtics earned 24 shots with 14 on goal, compared to the Eagles’ 15 shots with nine on goal. They also took seven corner kicks to CCU’s five. Emily Emge (JR/Beaver Falls, Pa.) put four shots on goal and Malak Shuman (SO/Monroeville, Pa.) three.

The Celtics (4-2-1/0-0-1/3-0) next play at Asbury (Ky.) University, at 2pm Saturday.
