The Carlow women’s basketball team knocked off Alfred State
College (N.Y.), 68-51, in a USCAA matchup Tuesday, at Oakland Catholic High
The Celtics, ranked 11th in USCAA Division I, got two double doubles to propel them past the sixth-ranked Pioneers (13-8).
Emma Stille (FR/Columbus, Ohio) had a big night, with 20 points, 19 rebounds and two blocks. It was her 12th double double of the season. Noelle Vallimont (JR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) added 11 points, 10 rebounds and two steals.
The Celtics (10-16) led, 23-15, after the first quarter. They got a strong start from Reanna Turner (FR/Pittsburgh, Pa.), who netted 10 of her 12 points in the opening 10 minutes. Turner also finished the night with five assists.
The Pioneers found most of their success off the lob to center Catherine Bialecki. She also posted a double double, with 30 points and 11 rebounds.
Carlow led, 42-33, at halftime and made a defensive stand in the third quarter. The Celtics held Alfred State to one basket and a pair of free throws in the frame. They took a 53-37 lead into the fourth quarter, and stretched it from there.
The Celtics wrap up the season Friday and Saturday at WVU Tech and Rio Grande.
