The Carlow men’s basketball team dropped a River States Conference matchup to Ohio Christian, 93-71, on Friday evening, at Oakland Catholic High School.
The Celtics (3-21/2-10) fell behind by 26 points in the first half, but did not quit. They got a spark off the bench from Ryan Bradigan-Barnett (FR/Dayton, Pa.), who scored the final four points of the first half and got the crowd roaring. The Celtics went to the locker room trailing, 51-32.
Carlow climbed back into the contest after the break, twice getting within seven points of the Trailblazers, 54-67 and 67-60, with less than 10 minutes remaining.
But Carlow struggled defensively all evening to find Austin Marciniak, who knocked down 9 of 14 from beyond the 3-point line. He also went 2 of 2 from the foul line, to lead all scorers with 29 points.
He buried the last of his 3s with 7:20 remaining, right after Carlow cut OCU’s lead to 67-60. The shot gave the Trailblazers (14-12/8-5) a double digit lead which would last for the rest of the night.
OCU finished the game shooting 48.1 percent from 3 and 50.7 percent from the floor. Marquis Jackson added 23 points for Trailblazers, and Gary Hoover posted a double double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
PJ McLaughlin (SR/Irwin, Pa.) led Carlow with 13 points and 11 rebounds, his fourth double double of the season. Charlie Scharbo (JR/Jefferson Hills, Pa.) posted 13 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Cole Novotney (JR/Brownsville, Pa.) contributed 14 points and Miles Sunder (JR/Jeannette, Pa.) added 11. Zach Bryan (JR/Irwin, Pa.) had nine points, eight rebounds and three assists, and Jacob St. George (SO/Monaca, Pa.) had eight assists.
