Celtics fall to Cal U Pennsylvania

NCAA Division II California University of Pennsylvania was too much for the Carlow men’s basketball team to handle Saturday, December 17, at Hamer Hall.

The Vulcans (3-8) had six players in double-figures and were paced by Luka Andjusic and Jay Tucker, who scored 19 points apiece off the bench.

The game was back and forth until 7:50 remained in the first half. Then the Vulcans went on a 12-0 run to take a 21-17 lead at 5:59, and extended their lead to 44-27 at the break.

The Vulcans shot 50 percent (40-of-80) from the floor, including 41.2 percent from three. The Celtics shot 43.1 percent (25-of-58) from the field. Cal U outrebounded Carlow, 49-30, and scored 36 points off turnovers.

Charlie Scharbo (JR/Jefferson Hills, Pa.) led the Celtics with 17 points (7-of-9 shooting), nine rebounds, four assists, three blocks and two steals. Miles Sunder (JR/Jeannette, Pa.) added 10 points and four rebounds.

Carlow (2-11/1-2) next plays Friday, December 30, at Tiffin University.
