The Carlow women’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the season, 61-43, in its River States Conference opener against WVU Tech on Friday, December 2, at Oakland Catholic High School.
The Golden Bears (7-3/1-0) earned their seventh straight win, in what was also their first conference game of the season. Carlie Biehl-Wilson led WVU Tech with a double-double, posting 11 points and 10 rebounds. Alexandra Combs added 10 points for the Golden Bears.
After a slow start, the Celtics overcame a 15-7 first quarter deficit to tie the game at 21 by halftime. However, the Golden Bears pulled away by outscoring Carlow, 18-8, in the third quarter.
It was an off night in shooting for the Celtics, who went 25.4 percent from the field, 18.2 percent from three and 38.5 percent from the foul line. The Golden Bears also won the boards, 49-37.
Reanna Turner (FR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) paced the Celtics with 13 points. Noelle Vallimont (JR/Erie, Pa.) led Carlow in rebounds (7), assists (3) and steals (4). Bria Rathway (SO/Belle Vernon, Pa.) had two blocks.
The Celtics seek their first RSC win Saturday, hosting the University of Rio Grande.
