Goodwin, Yanief named all-tournament as Celtics win Tip Off

The Carlow women’s basketball team won the Penn State Beaver Tip Off Tournament on Sunday, November 20, defeating the host Roaring Lions, 65-53.

The Celtics, who defeated Penn State Brandywine on Saturday in their first game of the tournament, had two players – Alexis Yanief (JR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Leah Goodwin (SO/Cincinnati, Ohio) – named to the all-tournament team. Goodwin led Carlow (4-0/0-0/5-0) against Beaver with 14 points and five steals.

The Celtics held a 25-23 lead at halftime, but used a big third quarter, outscoring the Lions, 21-9, to take control. Carlow held Beaver to 27.3% shooting in the quarter.

Noelle Vallimont
(JR/Erie, Pa.) added 13 points and seven rebounds for Carlow. Reanna Turner (FR/Pittsburgh, Pa.) scored 10 points, Bria Rathway (SO/Belle Vernon, Pa.) grabbed 10 rebounds and Kayla Brownlee (SO/Pittsburgh, Pa.) dished six assists.

The Celtics next play on December 2, when they host WVU Tech in their first River States Conference game of the season.
